Blog post 5: Operation : Population

Everyone has always blamed population for the cause of poverty which is cause of major hunger in other countries including here in the Philippines. Population is also one of many problems a country can have, well not exactly population but overpopulation .

This article was in my last blogpost which the title is "Population and Feeding the world" by Anup Shah in the website "Global Issues" and there is q quotation there and it stated:

"Oftentimes, people make the argument that population increases the lack of food or ability to provide enough food to sustain suck growth. However, for many decades food production has more than kept up with population growth."

Meaning that food production is much more big of a problem that population growth, maybe because population growth only began on the year 2000 i think. (opinion) but the lacking of food is experienced even in the past.

"As Greenpeace has noted, most hungry people live in countries that have food surpluses rather than deficits."

I did not know about this one but some people live in places that have food. meaning they are hungry yet they have food which means they don't use their resources properly. Lastly there is q quotation which stated:

"World hunger is extensive in spite of sufficient global food resources. There increased food production is no solution. The problem is that many people are to poor to buy readily available food. Therefore measures solving the poverty problem is what is required to solve the world hunger problem."

This is correct in more ways than one. Why? It is true that increasing food production will not help people who are poor because first they can't afford the food because they are poor and second even if they manage to buy food they wouldn't be able to feed every human being hre on earth why? because of OVERPOPULATION.

Blogpost 4: Major Major Problems of hunger

I for one get hungry but not the DYING kind of hungry. Hunger is a major problem not just here in the Philippines but also in other countries. It is a crisis and a burden to all specially poor people. But not all people experience hunger but that doesn't mean we can not experience it in the future so we've got to be ready when that time comes.

I found this article entitled "World Hunger and Poverty" by "Anup Shah" in the website "global issues" and this article gave little explanation but a huge meaning in terms of its content.

This article stated that the main cause of hunger is non other that poverty but first let me tell you a short meaning of the word poverty. It is the   I've noticed one part of this article which is very strong in meaning. That part is :

"...If efforts are only directed at providing food, or improving food production or distribution, then the structural root causes that create hunger, poverty and dependency would still remain."

Meaning if the government will continue to focus on how to gain and improve food then the whole poverty problem will not be solved at all and it would even make it worse. Another one that i saw is :

"...And so while continuous effort, resources and energies are deployed to relieve hunger through these technical measures, the political causes need political solutions as well."

This statement is correct because it is true, if government would help in ways like putting up more fund in food, expand land distribution for the poor so they can plant and harvest more crops and lower the prices of food.

The government is always the one who is being accused of why there is hunger, well its not entirely true. For me it's the governments fault and the peoples fault why? because let's face it, some of the government officials are doing there job right by helping people reduce and probably eliminate hunger but what does the people do, goof of, they don't do their jobs right that's why they experience poverty and most importantly they never listen to the government.

We may not experience the change we've been wishing for but if the solutions that the government are currently promising to the people were given, then we could call it a miracle that might even stop hunger.

Blogpost 3: Biology of Hunger

when i was in high school i would always get hungry because of boring subjects and the time running so slow for breaks.(recess and lunch), i hate that feeling when i'm hungry, when my tummy starts growling and hurting. You know what i hate more than being hungry? being very full. That heavy feeling in your stomach, you can't even walk straight because of heavy loads of food you've eaten. I learned my lesson back then. Only eat normal amount of food. Trust me, you wouldn't want to have that kind of feeling.

Did you ever had that feeling of being hungry? Of course, everyone has but did you ever wonder how hunger works inside our bodies? Did you ever ask yourself why do we get hungry? In the article "Hunger and Eating" by Takako Hara in the website "CSUN Edu" In that article it discussed a little bit about Biology of hunger and while I was looking at the article i found this:

"...Cannon and Washburn (as cited in Coon, 1995) came up with the stomach contraction theory which states that we know we are hungry when our stomach contracts."

In this article it stated a lot o theories, This is true mostly because we always say "Im getting hungry" when our stomach starts grumbling. Am I right? :D Btw did you know that when our stomach growls it means the fluids and gas move through the intestines. It prepares the stomach for food by moving the stuff in the intestines out of the way,This causes the intestines to squeeze small portions of water and gas making bubbly and gurgling noises. Where did i get this info? Google ;) (LINK) It's our alarm clock when it's time for lunch. Another theory is:

"...Glucose theory states that we feel hungry when our blood glucose level is low. Bash (as cited in Franken, 1994) conducted an experiment transfusing blood from a satiated dog to a starved dog. The transfusion resulted in termination of stomach contraction in the starved dog, and supported the glucose theory. But as LeMagnen (as cited in Kalat, 1995) suggests that blood glucose level does not change much under normal conditions."

This theory states that blood glucose is the cause of hunger. They experimented the dog and the starved dog is not starving anymore. (WHAT?!) When our glucose is running low that is when we experience hunger but when it is high of course we feel normal. This next theory is:

"...Heat-Production theory suggested by Brobeck (as cited in Franken, 1994) states that we feel hungry when our body temperature drops, and when it rises, the hunger decreases. This might be explain that we tend to eat more during winter."

I agree with this one. One time it was raining really badly, i was very cold and wanted some noodles. After having some noodles i became more hungry i don't know why. Maybe this is where Heat-Production theory comes in. It is true that when the temperature drops we become more and more hungry. Think about this. When were sick out temperature goes up and we don't want to eat and our we usually lose
our appetites. I think this theory is also the reason behind why we don't eat too much when we are sick.

Blog post 2: Hunger and Appetite

I have experienced hunger and I even got full. And my appetite is really

i found this article stating that this two things are the same based on a medical dictionary but they differ in meaning in english dictionary.

I have found this in one article entitled "Hunger vs Appetite" by "professor Gary Egger" on the website "Medical Observer" and it is about the difference between hunger and appetite. And yes those two are entirely different things. According to the article it stated that:

"...It doesn't take a degree in English literature to understand that 'need' and 'desire' are two separate things, and that a misunderstanding of this could be significant in any health prescription."

This sentence is true because as I wrote in the upper part of my blog post if you look at the English dictionary you will find a difference with hunger and appetite in terms of one specific word. Hunger is the NEED for food while appetite is the DESIRE of food. Here is another definition of hunger given by the article:

"...Basically, Hunger is the biological need to have to eat. It is a constant, urging drive to seek out food which doesn't go away with distraction."

Again hunger is the need to eat. Just imagine life without being hungry, everyone would be freakin thin! I would LOVE IT :D Being hungry is needed by all people, i mean else would we know when to eat? What if we don't have a clock an don't know the time then it's up to our stomachs to tell us when to eat by grumbling our tummies. Being hungry is normal and if you experience hunger then congratulation! It means you are a human being. The article also stated the meaning of appetite:

"...Appetite on the other hand, is a learned desire to want eat, that develops largely through learning. It can go away when distracted and is therefor generally easier to deal with genuine hunger when trying to reduce one's food intake."

Appetite is the desire to eat meaning even if we don't get hungry we still choose to eat because of our appetites. It also state there that appetite can be distracted while going back to Hunger it can't be distracted, anyway by distracted i mean you can keep your mind occupied until your appetite gone like watching TV, playing computer games, basketball and etc. and it is true that appetite is much easier to handle because you can control your appetite but not your hunger.

Hunger and appetite might be two different things but they are needed for a healthy body. Appetite can ruin your body figure if you let your appetite take over your body but sometimes appetite is a great way to waste your time, why? Eating is good for the body and it can really pass the time.

Blogpost 1: Hunger in different meanings

Everyone experiences hunger, of course. I for one always experience this. Not just me. If you're hungry what's your first move? Of course you would eat. what else will you do?

Food plays an important role in our life, this also gives us energy that we need to do all sorts of things. Without food we experience hunger. What is hunger? It is an uncomfortable feeling and is either caused by lack of food or skipping a meal, in other words, the human body is just like a car, it needs to be fueled every time you run out of gas. For me Hunger is normal for every human being living on this planet, i mean if you don't even get hungry you might not consider yourself a human being.
But eating is not enough to satisfy hunger. We need to feed our body with all the nutrients we need. Remember,we are what we eat. I remembered reading in an article that says" if you eat instant food, your life will be instant too, if you eat junk  food your life will be junked too. So we should be aware of what we put in our stomach. So we should eat healthy and live a healthy life. There are also other meaning of hunger besides food. Some times we also hunger for success, fame , and fortune. There are also times that we hunger for love and attention and affection. In those cases, we don't need food. We need to nourish our mind with beautiful thoughts. We should give our precious time if we hunger for fame and fortune. We should work very hard if we hunger  for success. We need to show our love one how much they mean to us if we hunger for their love and affection.

Do you imagine yourself being deprived of food for a long period of time? If you were deprived of food for a long period of time your mind will be cloudy. You will not think straight and you will have a hard time making decisions. I for one experienced this kind of things that's why I don't want to experience it again. According to research There are 870 million people who are undernourished and probably hungry right now ( Link ) So how lucky are you? Lets talk about  Hunger here in the Philippines. Hunger here is just one of many problems in this Country. Many street children or even grown ups who experience poverty also experiences hunger, what do you think is the out come of that? Of course malnutrition or even worse death. In Other Countries hunger is also a burden to them specifically Africa. Hunger in the Philippines and Hunger in Africa are two different things, I guess its pretty much more complicated for Africa. Africa is considered one of the most poorest country in the world therefore being poor means no money, no money = no food, no food = Hunger. We can rate a country if it is a developing country by the number of people who are suffering hunger. The more people suffering from hunger the worst it can get.I remember my father telling me that during their time most artist in America like Madonna, Michael
Jackson, and most of the popular singer then took part by singing and doing an album for free just raise money so that they can help the people in  Africa. That's the famous USA for Africa. I can't think of a better solution to stop hunger. But I can suggest a thing or two to stop hunger in my own way. I will study hard and I will find a good job someday and I will help the less fortunate ones by saving a part of my salary and I will buy food and I give It to the street children.

I found this one article in which it stated different types of hunger. It is entitled "The meaning of hunger" by Mary Desaulniers and the website is "ezinearticles" and it stated there, she explained and enumerated 3 types of hunger. The first one is real hunger:

"...There is the real hunger for sustenance that comes after a hard day's work. This hunger is necessary for our survival as it tells our body that it needs to replace the energy that has been expended."

Meaning when we are tired after a hard day's work or after going home from school, work, studying etc. we are technically hungry when tired. The energy in our body is very low. Energy is like the fuel to our bodies. When energy is low it means tat all the nutrients stored in our bodies are mostly gone due to working all day. The next one is:

"...Then there is the hunger we feel when we are bored-the Sunday afternoon variety that creeps into our bones like a bout of flu. You feel hungry even after a meal and you can't see to shake it off."

This one is pretty much experienced by everyone. That feeling when you're bored and there is nothing to do but eat and your body seems to go with it even if you're full and once you've eaten you would still crave for food. I don't know why but i think it's like a habit for us to eat even if we've already eaten lunch/breakfast/dinner when we have nothing to do. The last one is:

"...A more insidious form is the hunger we feel at the end of the day, a hunger that is ravenous, partly because we are hungry, but mostly because we are carrying ravages of the working world home and we have no other avenue to tame the beast."

Like the first definition of hunger, this is also related to after working. This meaning states that at the en o the day we are seriously hungry and it's correct. I experience this all the time. I get hungry when the day is about to end and i don't know why i don't get full. This type of hunger has bad effects:

"...This is the form of hunger that leads to unbridled bingeing and weight gain, and as long as the issues remain unsolved, the body will deposit layers of subcutaneous fat much like an armor to shield itself against what it feels to be an unjust grievance"

This is true in terms of the " WEIGHT GAIN" part. when we eat too much the result is getting fat. It also stated there that the fats in our body create layers and layers of fat like an armor. It stores the fats so that when we get hungry, the fats replace hunger as a substitute of food and boom,we get less hungry.
